Huawei’s Kirin 670 chipset might bright advanced AI to mid-range smartphones

Huawei is working on a new mobile platform, the Kirin 670, which should arrive in the upcoming mid-range smartphones from Huawei, ans it is said to provide support for advanced artificial intelligence (AI) features on cheaper phones.

Data sources are not yet official, but sources in China claim that the new Kirin 670 processors, which have not yet been officially presented, come with two Cortex-A72 cores and four Cortex-A53 cores, basically the same configuration as the Kirin 950 processors, the Huawei flagship chipset introduced two years ago.

The graphics processor unit is a Mali-G72 MP12 ARM, the same GPU as used on the current flagship chipset from Huawei, the Kirin 970, launched on Mate 10 phablet.

The most interesting part of this new for mid-range chipset, Kirin 670, is that it should come with its own Neural Processing Unit (NPU), which means that future mid-range phones, and why not even budget smartphones from Huawei, will be able to offer advanced AI features, which can now be found mostly on the most expensive smartphones on the market.
