The new Huawei P20 series is by far the most important smartphone series ever launched by the Chinese company. The Huawei P10 was interesting, but the P20 series looks like one to give Samsung and Apple some headaches.
At least, so does the P20 Pro model, the flagship of the series, which comes with a truly revolutionary tri-camera system that achieved the highest score ever obtain by smartphone in the DxOMark benchmark in terms of photo and video performance.
In addition, it comes with a changed design in comparison to the P10 series, the only downside is that is clearly inspired by Apple’s iPhone X. The phone is being equipped with the most powerful processors even produced by Huawei, it offers 6GB RAM and also has a generous, 4,000mAh hour battery, much larger than the Galaxy S9 and S9+ or the iPhone X batteries.
But it is not very cheap. Not at all! At 900 euros, it certainly can be considered affordable. Its smaller brothers though, the P20 and P20 Lite, are cheaper, 680 euros for P20, while P20 Lite costs around 300 euros. Certainly the latter will count most on the volume of sales.
And the Huawei are optimistic about this year’s sales, predicting they will sell over 20 million units by the end of the year, a record for the P series.
Huawei, however, targets Apple’s position as the second largest smartphone maker in the world, announcing that in one or two years it will overtake Apple in volume. And it’s not going to be difficult, because Huawei sells many cheap smartphones and has the support of Asian markets where budget phones are very popular.
