40 girls, high school students, learn coding at Vodafone Romania within Girls in STEM program

Vodafone Romania organizes the second annual edition of Girls in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) program, where 40 girls, high school students, participate in coding classes and workshops, which aim at encouraging them to pursue in the future a career in the technical field.

This year’s edition runs between June and September 2018 and is structured on four-day sessions, organized with groups of up to 20 participants and supported by specialists from the company.

Girls in STEM offers an unprecedented learning experience that encourages high school girls to develop their coding skills and confidently approach this way opportunities for a possible career in technology. Along with other actions that we run locally, we come through this program closer to young people, even since their school time, to support them in the choices they make, which define their future professional path,” stated Florin Petrescu, HR Director, Vodafone Romania.

Girls in STEM is a program launched globally by Vodafone in 2017. The first session held in Romania last year had 22 participants. Following the success achieved, the program continues in 2018, in an extended formula that gives more students the opportunity to participate.

Students enrolled in Girls in STEM program receive support from Vodafone Romania team members to develop both their technical coding skills and other competencies such the interpersonal, communication and teamwork competencies, or those related to the professional area.
