Google announced a new milestone for YouTube, the video sharing website reaching one billion monthly unique users. Founded nearly eight years ago, YouTube created communities through the existence of its channels, nearly one of two internet users visiting the website at least once a month.
The most popular video website celebrated last year another milestone: its first video that reached 1 billion views.
YouTube grew a lot over the past years, its growth being explained also by the adoption of smartphones and other mobile terminals, last year published statistics reporting over 4 billion hours of content viewed every month and 72 hours of video uploaded to the website every minute. According to the same statistics 70 percent of the traffic comes from outside US.
Surely this numbers grew higher in the past months, Google continuing its video service expansion strategy. The company shows a particular interest for new geographical areas as Middle East extending its partnership program to Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Emirates. Asia is a challenging market for YouTube, the site being still blocked in mainland China.Source: The Next Web
