Wikipedia announce mobile Nearby page

27

Wikipedia has release a mobile version of its Nearby page. When you access it from your mobile device’s browser at www.wikipedia.org, the page will pull your GPS coordinates and bring up information about any interesting places in the vicinity. Now, you won’t be able to rate them with pretty stars and receive offers and promotions, but since about a thousand startups over the globe are plotting gamified location app “insert name here” right now, you’ll be set in no time.

Of course, Wikipedia itself is built on user contribution and sociability, so the foundation encourages users to share information and photos to make the website more beautiful, vibrant and educational. Heh, good ol’ Wiki might not be the most picture-perfect web page out there, but its certainly an invaluable one.
