TSMC CEO Moris Chang announced at the company’s investor conference that they will start mass manufacture of 16nm chips by the end of 2013. The cutting-edge 20nm process has already started in the first quarter, which is an outstanding achievement in staying ahead of the competition. The first 16nm-made chip will have 64 bit ARM Cortex A-57 (ARM’s fastest to date) and the first company to get a taste of the new tech will likely be Apple. Future iPads, or even Macs will get the new chip.
The fastest ARM CPU’s on the market today – Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 600 and Samsung’s Exynos 5 Octa both use Cortex-A15 cores.Source: PhoneArena
