Last month, VR “evangelist” Robert Scoble started spreading rumors about Apple signing a partnership with famous german optics company Carl Zeiss, with the goal of developing Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) devices.
Scoble started talking again about this matter, stating that his sources are from the “highest ranks” of Apple, claiming that the Cupertino company might unveil its first AR or VR device this summer. At the same time, Scoble did mention the fact that this launch might pe pushed till next year.
The idea of embracing AR technology was not dismissed by the Apple officials. In fact, CEO Tim Cook stated last year that his company it’s excited about this technology. “We are high on AR for the long run. We think there’s great things for customers and a great commercial opportunity. So we’re investing.”
That being said, Apple does take the chance to develop AR devices into account, but 2017 might not be the year to actually see any such devices launched. As Cook said himself, they are “high on AR for the long run”.
