The Xperia Z’s slightly chubbier twin – Xperia ZL, is coming to Europe in April. The smartphone will reach Germany at first, at a reported price of 599 euro. The ZL is a strange bird from a marketing standpoint – it’s the Xperia Z without a glass back and without water/dust resistance. We heard the Z costs about 619 euro in the UK, so that makes for a ‘whopping’ price difference of 20 euro. So far we haven’t heard of the ZL having anything special to give or take from the Xperia Z, apart from subtle cosmetic and a bit more substantial endurance changes. We are not sure what Sony’s doing with the Z/ZL duo, but at this point all the information might be purely speculative and the ZL could turn out to hold more to it.
The ZL retains the 5-inch Full HD optically laminated display, Bravia video processor, 13MP camera with the widely used EXMOR RS sensor and the Superior Auto functionality of the NEX line of cameras.
