The current flagships, the Galaxy S8 series, hasn’t arrived in stores yet, but Samsung is already working on its next generation of high-end smartphones, the Galaxy S9 series, which will be introduced in 2018.
According to industry sources, cited by South Korean media, a team within the company has been working on the display panels for the Galaxy S9 since late March and this month they should present the first prototype samples. This means that Samsung started 6 months earlier that it did last year for the Galaxy S8 series. The report attributes this to the more rigid quality control process which was implemented after last year’s Note 7 fiasco.
At this point, it is too early to speculate what specs and features will the new flagships sport, but the news outlet mentions that we’re likely to see two variants with 5.8- and 6.2-inch display panels – screen diagonals which are identical to this year’s S8 models. Also it is expected that they will bring 4K resolution and Samsung‘s next generation of flagships.
