Samsung announce 4GB mobile DRAM chips

Samsung dropped a bomb today with the news that they are ready to begin mass manufacturing of 4GB LPDDR3 mobile DRAM modules to a 20nm process. According to the press release, the new memmodules offer speeds comparable to those of standard DRAM found in personal computers. Data transfer reaches 2133 megabits/second per pin, which is two times more in comparison with LPDDR2 (800 MB/s). Samsung say this allows for three Full HD videos, or 17GB data overall, to be transferred in a second. Yet the new memory consumes 20% less energy.
