Samsung and Apple still lead the smartphone market, but the Chinese companies are catching up fast

The two giants, Samsung and Apple held their positions as leaders on the smartphone market in the first quarter of the year, but their Chinese competitors are growing faster than ever.

Latest IDC report shows that in the first quarter Samsung and Apple didn’t managed to boost their smartphone sales. Apple sales did grow, but with just 0.8% in comparison with Q1 2016.

As for the Chinese companies, Huawei, OPPO and vivo had a very good first quarter. The most impressive growth was for OPPO, whose shipments grew almost 30% in comparison with Q1 2016. But Huawei’s and vivo’s evolution in the first quarter as impressive as well.

The over all smartphone shipments grew in Q1 with 4.3% in comparison with Q1 2016, at a total volume of 347.4 million units.
