Intel readying Haswell chips for enthusiasts for end of 2014

Here is a piece of news that we have been treated to way too early. A leaked Intel presentation has confirmed that the company is readying a performance-oriented Enthusiast revision of its Haswell lineup. Named Haswell-E, it is set to bring six and eight-core setups to Intel motherboards with up to 20MB L3 cache and hyperthreading support which could double the logical cores up to 16.

Manufactured in a 22nm process, Haswell-E chips won’t feature integrated graphics, but will support DDR4 RAM memory modules clocked at 2133MHz.

At the same time Intel will release new motherboards named Wellsburg. They support DDR4 RAM and contain up to six USB 3.0 ports, up to 8 USB 2.0 ports and up to 10 SATA ports with speeds up to 6Gbps.

So, if it all goes well, by the end of 2014 you just might be able to coax 60FPS out of Crysis 3 on Ultra settings. 😛
