HTC DROID DNA goes open-source

If you want to turn your swanky new DROID DNA into a quad-core Android toaster, now you have the necessary SDK at your disposal. HTC have released the “source code” for their 5-inch Retina-defying flagship. The code is based on Android 4.1 and is available at the HTCDev site. Custom roms galore! Strangely, prior to this event Verizon dismissed the official bootloader unlock method and hackers from certain Android communities stepped up to manually unlock their devices. Initially, they had to unbrand the DROID DNA and proceed to unlock it with HTC’s official tools.

Minor controversy aside, it’s nice to see HTC deliver on their promises.
