Celebrating 7 years of success and innovation for COSMOTE Romania

There is one company in the telecom industry which defied all odds and made itself room on a highly competitive market and also which 7 years ago was announcing the launching of the commercial operations in Romania. Its growth happened not only in the context of fierce competition, but also with a financial and economic crisis around, with repeated regulations cutting tariffs, and with facing and dealing with the general stagnation of consumption.

This is COSMOTE Romania, whose people imagined new products and services which revolutionized the market and brought mobile communication to all customers. We now celebrate 7 years with many achievements so far and new challenges and opportunities that are about to come. Customers, employees and business partners were alongside the company, trusted and supported all the new ideas that brought success in many areas. The company set the stage to mobile telephony revolution in Romania and is looking forward to offer more innovating technology to its customers.

COSMOTE Romania started with a team of 350 and over the years got to a team of almost 1,400 professionals and dedicated specialists. The company rapidly grew to be one of the most important mobile telephony operators in Romania, with 6.4 million customers at September 30th, 2012.

In 2012, COSMOTE Romania was the first mobile operator to offer access to unlimited communication, by launching the No Limit tariff plan, addressing residential customers. The company’s focus on the corporate and broadband segment, which will also continue in 2013, was also notable with the launch of the COSMOTE Business tariff plans and the Dolce Mobile TV service, in partnership with Romtelecom.

Here are some of the most important company’s milestones during the last 7 years:

After the launch of operations, in December 2005, COSMOTE brings the mobile revolution with Cartela 2000, in March 2006. The next year comes with the first joint offer with Romtelecom; in 2008, COSMOTE launched in Romania the first on net/off net split of bundles in postpaid with COSMOTE Full Option portfolio. That year brought also other novelties: the residential joint offer COSMOTE Romtelecom Fix-Mobile Unlimited, Convergent 1000/ Unlimited for business, COSMOTE Business portfolio together with the Extraoption Business Group (unlimited within the Closed User Group) and another premiership on the market, Talk and Get Extraoption – talk 5 minutes, get another 60 minutes.

In 2009, COSMOTE launched Business Share portfolio, then Roaming Traveler, the first extraoption of its kind for postpaid (which later was extended for prepaid), a first on the market, Web‘n’walk and many more. Following the acquisition of Telemobil, COSMOTE launches in 2010 Connect EVDO, first co-op on broadband services, and the new prepaid brand, Frog. More launches came subsequently: COSMOTE Perfect pentru Tine portfolio (first fully flexible portfolio in the market); the unique concept providing for the first time in Romania the possibility to use the minutes in COSMOTE included in the bundle for calls in Romtelecom fixed network; the Quadplay offer (in Germanos stores), MVPN Budget Control  web-based application for business customers.

2011 starts with SMS services for Facebook and Twitter, a new COSMOTE XS-XXL portfolio, then continues with joint campaigns with BCR and Unilever, to culminate with the first national campaign with a worldwide known application – Angry Birds. In the same year, the company launched Travel and Surf data roaming offering, as part of Deutsche Telekom’s initiative to make using mobile internet abroad easier and less expensive.

Recently, COSMOTE Romania launched the Business Portfolio, which includes bundles from XXS up to XXL Plus. Unlimited calls inside the group and up to unlimited national and international zone 1 minutes, on-net SMSes and data traffic, these are only few of the benefits the new bundles bring to every small and medium enterprise from Romania.

The company is heading to yet another successful new year, continuing to offer Romanians access to latest technologies and products, as their operator of choice.
