The iPhone 8 series is the worst generation of Apple smartphones, in 10 years of iPhone history when it comes to sales.
Even though they are newer, that they have wireless charging features, better cameras and is made out of better materials, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus didn’t convinced to many buyers in the third quarter of the year, according to Canalys’ latest market research.
Canalys points out that iPhone 8 Plus is the first “Plus” variant to outsell its smaller brother, but put together they don’t even match the sales of iPhone 7 in Q3 2017. According to the numbers, Apple sold 11.8 million iPhone 8 and 8 Plus units in Q3. Meanwhile the company shipped over 13 million units in the same period of time.
In the previous, the newer iPhone models overtook their predecessors immediately after they were launched, but it wasn’t the case for the iPhone 8 series. Of course, the iPhone X is to be blamed, because it is the most interesting iPhone of the year, but it also shows that the incremental upgrades on the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus were way bellow their fans expectations, who preferred to go for last year’s iPhone 7.
